A better world: sometime this lifetime
Sit back, relax, drink your bourbon. Not a care in the world. Their kids aren’t safe, but yours are. Why should you care, right? You could not imagine your life without your family by your side, but when it happens to others, you turn your back. You can’t conceive the idea that others might want and deserve to be as happy as you, a happiness pursuit that you think you’re entitled to because by some superiority complex you have convinced yourself that this world is yours.
You went and had that abortion in ’09. It saved your career, your relationship, your life. Women around the country, as well as your close girl friends, share their pain; they tell you horror stories about their reproductive health. But what’s it to you — you’re safe. Your wealth and privilege have made you desensitized to a women reality that’s hard to hide.
I don’t know much about religion, but I do know this: when you call yourself a Christian you’re supposed to practice, not just preach. Actions speak louder than words. Going to church, quoting the Bible, acting like you love thy neighbor won’t cut it, when deep down you’re just a psycho scolding others for doing the same as you, then calling them out like a hypocrite.
No-christian values is all I see. But you you use your “faith” for your benefit, as you see fit. It’s not very christian-like to turn a blind eye on your brothers and sisters across the borders because you have convinced yourself your skin color is somehow better than others’.
You fight gays, trans, everyone, and all the basic human rights, as if it impacted your life in any way, ignoring the fact that every individual, regardless of their sexual orientation, is entitled to dignity and the freedom to choose to love whomever they want. Denying LGBTQ+ rights perpetuates injustice and inequality. But, ah, that’s right, I forgot you’re safe…in the warmth of your home, you’re OK. So what’s it to you, right?
It’s easy to see, when we break it down, why you would vote for someone who cares only about power and himself; it’s because you, too, care for no one but yourself and, if they’re lucky, your immediate loved ones. I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point.
Considering the rising stupidity in society, I could understand why you don’t get it. We think of stupid as a lack of understanding, as lack of formal education, and we measure it in low IQs. But it is more than that. As we say in Spanish, “no hay peor ciego que el que no quiere ver”. The willful refusal to use critical thinking and do your research when information is presented in your face is also stupidity. Outdated beliefs, despite evidence to the contrary, is stupidity. Pride that blocks rational thinking is stupidity. Stop being so stupid and allow yourself to grow! Break the g—damn cycle, if you care about a safe world.
You’re irresponsible when you let emotions and pride get in the way of the pursuit of happiness of others. We could have better days, a better place, but your mentality is blocking common sense. If they get their way, brace yourself for another four years of darkness, of chaos and violations of basic rights; a society where the richer gets richer and the poor only gets poorer.
I am deeply sorry this is where we are. I don’t think we can be a better people right now, but I hold out my hope for sometime this lifetime.
