Cold Enough to Kill
Premeditated.
Unlawful killings of innocent people.
May well be terrorists, serial killers.
I was taught to respect the law;
through fear, through consequence,
through the promise that justice
belonged to all its citizens.
So I became a law-abiding citizen,
never imagining I’d live to see it,
the day the law itself would be bent,
weaponized, until it broke the people
it was meant to protect.
People, documented or undocumented, are dehumanized.
People, citizens or not, are made into targets, hunted
their humanity reduced to paperwork,
their lives weighed against politics.
All while a power-drunk manchild
wrapped himself in a Constitution
that once meant something.
A Constitution that once stood between people and tyranny.
A Constitution that once restrained those who abused power.
A Constitution that once promised equal protection under the law.
A Constitution that was supposed to belong to all of us,
not only to the oligarchs, the favored,
not only to the powerful, the fittingly-colored.
My people are being killed in cold blood.
Their own neighbors, turning against them
for a paycheck, for quotas, for applause,
for the comfort of believing
someone else’s suffering
will buy them security and comfort.
Shamelessness found a new definition
when masked men chose obedience over conscience,
when they agreed that following orders
mattered more than another human being.
History has never remembered that choice kindly.
ICE may seem solid at first.
Cold. Unmoving. Unbreakable.
But everyone knows what happens to ice.
Under enough heat, it softens.
It cracks, it melts.
And people are bringing that heat.
Not the heat of hatred
but of voices that refuse silence,
of communities that refuse surrender,
of courage that outlasts fear,
of truth that survives propaganda.
No system built on fear lasts a lifetime.
The surface will grow too hot
and ICE a chance won’t stand.
