You’re not weak
In a world where, once upon a time, some human gave way to who and what we’re meant to be night or day: You’re not weak for feeling the motions You’re not weak for feeling the weight of life more than other humans may You’re not weak for seeking help The same way you’re not stubborn For going away, for keeping people at bay You’re definitely not weak for shedding tears You’re not weak for avoiding your fears nor are you selfish for chasing happiness in whatever form, way, or shape You’re not weak for closing your eyes when life takes a bite at your joyful side You’re not weak…

How to accept your small frame (excerpt)
As an author, I don’t think I could always keep a copy of my own book nearby. But whenever I need to remind myself of my purpose or of things that I’ve accomplished because of my stories, or of my own advice, I like to go back to a particular page or chapter in my book. It’s purely for satisfaction (and a little ego boost). Most recently, I revisited my FLAT: LIVING SMALL IN LARGE AMERICA book — my very own personal journey that I wrote in hopes of inspiring other women to make peace with their bodies and, particularly, their small boobs — and boy, am I proud. I…

Chosen for you
Stay positive twenty-four seven Brush your teeth in case you stay a while Respect the law, follow the rules, society is king Pick a religion; freethinking is frown upon Show a smile, apologize for your biological mess You did not ask, you had no clue, but now you’re here, be thankful for food, family, friends, and the roof over your head; you had no plans but it was all set, lucky you wipe off your tears ‘cause god forbid you look sad over pondering of what makes sense, what’s best for you ‘cause one lifetime isn’t all good If you didn’t follow all the rules you must do good or…

The Tradition
I get the tradition. Believe me, I get the tradition. The want and the need to “become one” when you’re in love; the excitement of the “forever” promise when a couple says, “I do.” The search for the perfect dress that comes after for some women… I get it all. But I also get that, that thrill, is the result of learned behavior. We’ve been conditioned to believe that an expensive ring closes the deal; that it proves how “in love” your partner is and that, as a result, you must be “the one” if he/she proposed, right? So cute yet so silly. Question is: is it a demonstration of…

Our Standardized Life
Cluttered minds have a thing or two in common. We can’t just get to our daily tasks like normal people do. A spider web waits outside as we try to climb out of the dark; in other words, out of bed. Do I follow this line or this one over here? And, where does it even lead to? Every day starts out the same — do I focus on making art or making money today? A way of living only a few can understand. Talk to the corporate world and they’ll be dazed. “But, how?” they’ll ask, questions pouring out of their brain. A nine-to-five sounds okay (if you think…

Potential Psychopaths or Shy People
Upon realizing I was feeling tired, I turned around to skip the one mile walk and head to a local store instead, one within shorter distance. I heard the flapping sound of flip-flops following right behind me. I turned so quickly I must not have seen who it was and, by then, I was embarrassed to look back. Sometimes, I imagine that, if I ever get abducted, this is how my “captor” will get away; criminal sketch artists couldn’t save me because I didn’t want to look at my attacker’s face. I only knew it was a woman because of the shadow—long ponytail swaying from side to side. But this…

Yet Another Happiness Definition
Have you noticed the pattern in which every commercial in the world tries to sell us happiness? It’s almost always the same — a new car, starting a family, an engagement, a cruise with a group of people… The list goes on. Indeed, those are ultimate goals for a lot of people; just not for everyone. We are individuals — with conditioned minds, nonetheless, but individuals. You’d be surprised at the oddities that give some of us genuine happiness. This past year I’ve spent a lot of time by myself and I’ve noticed that, to some, loners are sad people (because they’re alone). My favorite reaction is when I go…

An Ordinary Body in Miami
Do I like Miami? Yes. Would I live in Miami for the rest of my life? Leaving out the fact that I can’t be at one place for too long (on this humongous planet with so many places to go and see), I can’t see myself calling this place home for the long run. However, when in the US, I now can’t see myself out of Miami either. Eight months ago I made the move — I previously lived in Spain and Philadelphia. It was supposed to be Los Angeles. I had dreamed of California living for a long time, so I was very excited to go there and test…

Don’t Read The News
“Don’t read the news,” I tell myself to avoid disappointment, disgust, rejection, repulsiveness, and sadness. That never works. I never listen to my own commands, my own advice. Mainly because I love being informed, even though the result is almost always the same: bad news. And it’s even worse, ten times intensified, when you get your news from the internet because it comes with an incredible amount of unsolicited commentary from trolls who are very proud of their opinion no matter how utterly stupid they sound. I’m starting to wonder if this is really how we’re supposed to live; making each other sick with misery. Humans can’t seem to reach…
