“And justice for all”

If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are a comrade of mine.

-Che Guevara

In today’s somber mind-wanderings, I took a trip into what The Pledge of Allegiance means, and whether it has any meaning today. As an educator, I am thankful my school doesn’t have the students stand and recite this empty little verse. Maybe at some point in the past the United States of America, in some way, lived up to its ideals, but there has never been justice for all in this country. The current state of affairs of the country is not exactly inspiring any sane person to be a patriot either.

And, “One nation under god”? — lost me there. It excludes millions of people who are not religious or don’t share the same religion, Christianity. It is foolish and dictatorial to impose your personal beliefs on others.

Even the Constitution has no meaning today since the 2024 election. Everything that is happening right now, under the US Constitution, would have been stopped; violators properly charged, order restored. But it isn’t the case. At. All. Laws are being violated left and right because one political party has allowed a (demented) man to be above the law.

So, the idea that we owe respect to a flag and a country that doesn’t serve us anymore should be forgotten — just as fast as a government that doesn’t serve its people should be removed.

I salute everyone who is out there making noise for change and those who went to a protest today, on National Not My President Day.

Power to the people!
