2025: New year, same problems

Turned the chapter the other day and it took a minute to understand that the mother of plot twists revealed itself before we even had time to register that it was a new year, a new day.

Arriving at the year 2025 hasn’t been an exceptionally soft landing. In a way, it hasn’t been worse than the last, when uncertainties wrapped me tightly in their tentacles. But then it was personal. Now it’s as if the dumpster fire has widely expanded to every corner of life, catching you off guard. When every day you wake up to mass destructions, to new lows, you can’t help but wonder, what will be of this, our human race?

Nothing appears to make sense. The ones who need to be held accountable are getting away. Hell is freezing over while everything’s burning in heaven. Needless to say history repeats itself because, as someone once said, those who don’t learn history are doomed to repeat it — though I’d have to argue that there are those who do learn, but aren’t humble enough to know when to change the course and get out of the way

It’s like a life sentence filled with infinite mistakes. And who are the ones that pay? The same old tragic heroes — the lower classes, the underdogs, the vulnerable, the people without a voice.

A quick simplified search on the reasons why the Roman Empire fell will remind you that there were many factors similar to the problems we have today:  political instability, economic crisis, barbarian invasions, military overspending, social unrest (inequality between the rich and the poor always playing a role). You would think modern society would have mastered a solution to these common issues by now, but instead, world leaders have repeated the same patterns since before 476 AD. We really are doomed, aren’t we?

There are four things in the history of this country that have perpetuated my trust issues: the legislative, the executive, the judicial branches, and men.

I’m just feeling quite incredulous at the moment. I’m feeling some type of (dark) way as an ordinary person and a hopeful empath living “in the time of cholera.” When it comes to this culture, the light at the end of the tunnel just seems unreachable, moving farther and farther every day. Isn’t this how rebels are born? This is why citizens protest. As long as these kind of governments exist, there will always be civil unrest: because the people at the top of a society, the ones somehow assigned to make changes for everyone else, usually have one and only interest: themselves.

PS: wishing you all impacted by the wildfires in California safety and rain.  💜
