Mean every word
Every word on here is or once was a piece of me. I mean what I say. I write what I mean. Some stories get twisted in the mix. But I always come back to me. It always comes back to me. One of the hardest parts of wearing your heart on your sleeve is you expect honesty from everyone you meet. You assume that vulnerability will be mirrored, that speaking your truth will invite truth tellers; that someone will handle your unvarnished feelings with the same care. Well, it doesn’t always happen that way. Sometimes people take your openness as an invitation, and sometimes they take it as an…

The Crumbs They Call Affection
I ask myself today what’s changed? Heart beating with the same ache, People I’ve loved so long can’t reciprocate, And I settled for crumbs they call affection Given all my attention, dealt with their rejection; I understand it was f—ked up, in retrospection. Today I tried to numb the pain again, day by day, But how long ‘til I no longer feel this way? Heaven knows I tried, from the Milky Way and back Years have passed, but I keep falling into the crack And it’s here I stay, unsure if it’s in my brain Or if the efforts’ been all in vain, And it’s just a no-destination train. 2020 Resentment and Gratitude

But like no other year, that I know of, this year gave us a little extra to think about, learn, be thankful for, perhaps regret, and even love. Here are some of the things that I learned and resented this year. I found out that it ain’t true, that your heart can’t break when it wasn’t whole to begin with, because the fragments, every broken piece multiplies, actually. I learned about the agony that sprouts out of a rootless relationship; out of missing something that just isn’t there, that never was, and won’t ever be.…

Words to Inspire the Dead
Today’s post is just to provide a little space to some of the best words ever written — and one of my absolute favorite quotes by the wise and great Francis Scott Fitzgerald. Great words to live by. Enjoy! For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I…

It Is What It Is
Those were the heart wrenching last words a friend dying of brain cancer said to me. It wasn’t our whole conversation, but those words — words of complete abandonment, acceptance, resignation — are the ones that stuck with me. He was a young man, a son, a brother, a friend…a bartender. On his last days, I found myself laughing in his mom’s kitchen as he showed me his mixology techniques. “Come with me,” he said. “Let me make you a drink.” And so I followed him to the kitchen. His movements slow; his words a slur, after a stroke paralyzed a side of his body. Still, he insisted in fixing…
