Surviving elementary: Teacher Appreciation
Life as an elementary teacher is ever entertaining. Kids keep you on your feet. The only reason you may need coffee is to keep up with their speed. Their questions are endless. The drama, infinite. But their smiles are sweet. Chance put me in this journey; one that I never saw myself in, but one where I very much fit in. Many people can teach, but not many have what it takes to make it in elementary. You must accept “potty talk” as a possible daily occurrence. The many ways their minds wonder will have your own head spinning. But just like puzzles, it all falls into place, and talking…

The last heartbeat in me
And even after the sun did twelve laps even after your claws came out even after your true colors showed the last heartbeat in me was somehow relieved I was able to breathe I had agreed to just let it go I had made peace with this popular belief that habit was stronger than love but I guess I never saw a feeling bloom on concrete Eternity falls short and I still can’t understand why, but it is one of those battles you just fight hopelessly to win and stay alive And no matter how many red flags were waved you go back to sleep hoping or thinking or wishing…

Behind Every Wide Smile
Spending time with people I hadn’t seen in a while reminded me of how far humans would go to hide their pain. It reminded me of something I know too well. And that is that, often times, behind a wide happy smile hides a plethora of motives and secrets we would have never guessed or seen someone conceal for the sake of a ‘don’t worry, be happy’ face. Sad little stories that haven’t been, and probably never will be told. How much practice it took that person to make it seem and sound genuine. Willpower that’s shaking, an insecure body that’s balancing, a mind full of unanswered questions and wavering…

Some Men
Dedicated to the men who want to have them all and commit to none Too shallow to put a woman first, some men never grow up, making us feel cursed, when it’s because of them we hurt. “Mormonin’ it” all the way, some like to pretend it’s okay to mate a dozen roses for the eternities while you, women, can’t. Some men are scared to seize the day with the one who’s always been by their side; the one who’s cried and tried to make things right; their true ride or die. Some men want to have them all, act like they’re single when they have one at home. And…

Past and Present Flashbacks
Writing this with my eyes closed, wanting to keep trapped the thoughts that might slip through the cracks when I look away, out in space. Nothing is kind anymore. Not the sound of night, not the air I breathe, not the light I see hurting my eyes like a splash from the salty sea. In my flashbacks, I see the good intentions that failed to be anything but good by those protecting my youth. I would’ve changed some things if only I could. What bothered me then, bothers me no more now. Not more than it should. Painting happy endings. Frustrated that the paint smudges before anything ever gets dry.…

Compilation of Best Posts
To whom it may concern: I compiled my favorite and best blog posts from the past six years and they’re now in this eBook format, for the avid reader on the go. You can make them your kill-time stories if you want. I always love hearing from new people outside of my regular blog postings. It is free, of course. About SayEtcétera: I came up with the word around 2014, when I started creating greeting cards and needed a catchphrase as a signature for my store, something that summed up my work. Its meaning is very literal: “…and so forth.” Basically, say everything, anything that you need to say.…
