• Writer’s block is not a myth

Am I among the minority here? I’m tired of seeing generalized opinions out there about the writing process. Just like a creative person has dry spells, they have “juicy” seasons. Or is the overflow of creativity also a myth? Some people say, if you sit your butt down at your desk, it will come. They say you’re just lazy, a procrastinator, not a real writer, if you can’t get through your writer’s block on demand. If only it were that easy. Let me clarify. I think in academic, journalistic, and technical writing, you’d probably have a better chance at getting your thoughts flowing because your work depends on facts that…

    Bamboo bridge on fire

Some days I can’t articulate my thoughts. Call it “writer’s block” or whatever that feeling of feeling stuck is. I’ve started writing some lines approximately six times this week — four of them from today alone — and I just can’t find the connectors, the transitions, the right prepositions… I’ve lost my train of thought multiple times and I’m done trying to find it. That time when the world around us stopped turning and forced us to do the things that we’d be doing, had there not been a need to get a day job, suddenly felt like breathing again. Who would’ve thought that in the middle of a pandemic I’d be feeling like myself. I remember it vividly because, well, these are some of the exact words I wrote once I felt the fairy (also…

  • Your Own Rhythm

Sit down and write even when you have nothing to whine about, they say. But it’s hard. Especially, after some time apart from your vibe, that which makes your talent shine; that which tells you how bomb you are; that which motivates and inspires you to be the brightest star, someone’s best advice. It can be hard. Why do I always end up with rhymes? Ahh, that poetic life… A writer’s life is all about stories, visuals, someone else’s life. Picking stories from the doctor’s visit, the grocery store, the car wash, a baseball game, the bar… One has to get involved, be social, cross oceans, and actually live life,…
