The Rescue Plan – an excerpt

JUST BROWSING is a dating story I’ve been writing for a while, but one that I never quite know what to do with. I think it’s time it sees the light, though. I started publishing it as a series a couple of years back, but didn’t like where it was going. That’s why I’ve decided that I’ll publish it as just another short story instead. Below is an excerpt, with tentative character names. If it sounds like something you’d read, check back for more — plus publishing dates! 😉 The Rescue Plan / Just Browsing “I’ve been looking for you all morning! You missed Media class.” “No sh*t.” “You alright?…

    Raw material for writers?

I love quoting these words by Sylvia Plath because they strike a chord within me every time, and I bet within most storytellers. It goes like this: I love people. Everybody. I love them, I think, as a stamp collector loves his collection. Every story, every incident, every bit of conversation is raw material for me. My love’s not impersonal yet not wholly subjective either. I would like to be everyone, a cripple, a dying man, a whore, and then come back to write about my thoughts, my emotions, as that person. But I am not omniscient. I have to live my life, and it is the only one I’ll…

  • How to accept your small frame (excerpt)

As an author, I don’t think I could always keep a copy of my own book nearby. But whenever I need to remind myself of my purpose or of things that I’ve accomplished because of my stories, or of my own advice, I like to go back to a particular page or chapter in my book. It’s purely for satisfaction (and a little ego boost). Most recently, I revisited my FLAT: LIVING SMALL IN LARGE AMERICA book — my very own personal journey that I wrote in hopes of inspiring other women to make peace with their bodies and, particularly, their small boobs — and boy, am I proud. I…

  • Proudly owning my words

My thing is, it is never about telling anyone how to live their lives. It’s about spreading the wisdom and knowledge that I know I’ve gained, which I proudly own. It’s about the things that I know have worked for me and which, sometimes, are simply basic “common sense” — and also things I should have done —hoping to uplift someone along the way. That’s it! If you connect with my words, that’s soooo GREAT. If you don’t, it’s also OK! Being a writer isn’t much of a lucrative business in modern times, unless you’re a celebrity [eye-roll]. It always baffles me how people so desperately prefer to read stories…

  • Maybe just chill out

Sometimes, you give too much importance to the irrelevant. Talking about “turn the negative into positive” is always valid and encouraging advice, but how about just letting people feel what they feel at the moment? We’re constantly trying to get in people’s heads and trying to “fix it.” I might be guilty of this, to be honest. However, when giving advice, I always try to respect the thin line between positive and toxic positivity. I give advice out of personal experiences only, never expecting everyone to take it or understand it. My words are for those who can relate — and hopefully those who, while they can’t relate, would find…

  • Not Another Inspirational Quote – Excerpt

I’m currently finishing up a little book of words of motivation, hopefully inspiration, and encouragement. It’s called Not Another Inspirational Quote: 100-something Relatable Life Lessons. I wanted to give you a little sneak preview, but the phrases are short and I don’t want to give them all away…yet. So here’s part of the introduction to the book so that you know what to expect. It remains a mystery to me how those overused sayings, catchphrases, mottos, or however you label them, somehow have stayed relevant forever and ever. And, of course, inspirational quotes—hated by many, mostly loved by all. The internet is filled with them. Social media can’t keep up.…

  • Replaceable (excerpt)

If they’re intimidated by the thorn, they don’t deserve the flower. It’s taken a lot of tears and a self-diagnosed clinical state of denial to reach this emotionally intelligent level. I’ve come to understand that you can have a heart of gold—the biggest, softest, and kindest of them all, and genuinely believe deep within your soul that you’re one of a kind and that you deserve fairness and all the best vibes. And, after you convince yourself that everyone else around you also thinks so, someone you actually care about will remind you that, nope, you’re not all that good stuff you thought you were. You’re replaceable. Even if your…

  • Story of a Terrible Drawing: The Relaunch

This creative nonfiction short story, originally published in 2014, has been relaunched! I thought it would be nice to offer my readers a few free copies as reintroduction  (well, it’s also what you’re supposed to do when you’re an unknown author, right?) [laughs nervously]. So, I have a promotion going from February 14 thru the 18th, the first 10 copies are free on Smashwords only! For Kindle, iBooks, and other platforms, see links of your preference below. It’s not free on those reading platforms, but it really is only a few pennies. I unpublished this book a year after being published because I later realized it was a little rushed. I just…

  • Hey Girl, You’re the Full 3D Experience

And so much more! Don’t let fiction influence your reality. Remove everyone’s eyes from you. Forget about everyone’s views of the “ideal” breasts and you’ll be alone in the room with the only critic that matters: yourself. It’s important that you understand that you’re not a walking magazine cutout. You’re the real deal, the full 3D experience, if you will, with working organs that cannot be trimmed down (or blown up, in our case) just to fit the mold. Love your assets. Just a sweet little reminder for all my ladies out there to not conform to social norms and beauty standards. This is an excerpt from my little book…

  • Seduce Me to Use Me (Excerpt)

See all books at links below iBooks | Smashwords | Amazon He saw, he craved. He thought he had to have it, so he chased, until he caught his prey. But like a toy, his prey got old and he grew bored of it. So on to his next expedition he went. They say all is fair in love and war. All the irrational decisions we make to keep someone in our life when we’re under their spell or to save ourselves when we fall out of love — the grief and the bliss of it all is validated after all. And in these times of “situationships,” this brief story…
