Fitting Right In
The other day, after a woman who must’ve been in her late 50’s or early 60’s started talking to me out of nowhere, I started reflecting on the relationship I have with people of all ages. This lady and I both walked out of a store at the same time, and walked the same couple of blocks towards the train station. Once there, we sat on the same side of the platform: southbound. Perhaps it was this coincidence that inspired her to want to start a conversation. “I love Sephora,” she said. “OMG, so do I!” I replied. Next thing I know, we’re deep in a conversation about skincare. Then,…

The Quiet Therapists Within
Who’s the therapist in your life? Or are you that someone? You know, that person who, whether their profession or not, has the spine, the mind, and the guts and that swag that screams, “so what?”— do it and do it twice. And they’re classy enough to be your trusty go-to when the going gets hard. Well, here we are. Interestingly enough, we don’t see dark but light. Every terrible turn or outcome is a sign; an opportunity to retract and restart. Doesn’t mean inside we aren’t cracking and seeing stars from the swings life takes at us, often straight to the heart. But we know better not to trust…

A Walk in the (Snowy) Park
We met on a social media comment section of a popular page. Arguing about each other’s point of view, we took the angry exchange to direct messaging. Well, he DM-ed me first. He said he was sorry if he came off as too aggressive, but he wanted to end the convo in good terms because I “seemed like a cool girl.” Oh here we go… I thought. I sent him a thumbs-up emoji and wrote, “no hard feelings.” I meant it. After a couple of days, when things calmed down on that page and I thought this crazy guy had gone away, I woke up to a ton of “likes” by…

Falling for Strangers – an Excerpt
How inexplicable is it to be in love with what never gave you a reason to fall? To want and need his attention more than every once in a while and to be jealous of whoever steals that attention from you. I write about it to try to understand this phenomenon — this grueling, unnecessarily painful phenomenon called love. I’m sorry, but I don’t have a lot of positive things to say about it. It has made me cynical. At least that’s what people say (and I’m in no way quoting Taylor Swift.) You see, I find it hilarious that whenever I talk negatively about love, which would actually be…

An Ever After Moment
I don’t understand weddings, but I understand love. Congratulations to all of you celebrating an engagement, wedding, or anniversary! May the spark never die. 🙂 Inspired by a moment of bliss: my brother’s happiness. (Made with Adobe Shape — what do you think? )

White Matter
The town is completely white. Cars, trees, power lines — everything is covered in white. I climb the couch by the double window and slide the curtains open. Kneeling on the couch, I cross my hands under my chin and watch the white matter as it falls from the sky. It doesn’t stop falling. No different patterns, no colors, nothing but white when I look up, down, and around. The brick houses in my neighborhood are untouched, except for their roofs. Up there, the white matter does stick. The roof on some of the houses have a very thick layer hanging on for dear life, while others only have some…
